Thank you, you are right, this is not a Ghostscript or Image Magick issue, the issue is how Illustrator is exporting the EPS

I'm converting some EPS files to png with the following command: magick convert drawing.eps -background white -alpha Remove out.png This is the EPS file opened in illustrator: http://i.imgur.com/S7KUb6D.png As you can see, there is a black border with white space after it.
