Re: Common colors?

The general problem is complex. If you have a small area of solid brown and a larger area of many slightly different shades of yellow, a simple histogram will find brown as most frequent. How sophisticated do you want to get? "Subjective dominance": - yellow > red - red > green - light > dark - satu...

Re: sigma and radius arguments for -blur and -gaussian-blur

My maths isn't good enough to explain Gaussian functions. An internet search might help. I think (but could be wrong) that r defines the maximum values of u and v.

Re: pdf to eps, resolution

Yes, my "500" was just an example, of course. You might get better quality from a multiple of 72. Any density is possible. If the pdf has been created from a single raster (bitmap) image, ImageMagic might restore it to the original dimensions. I suppose it depends on whether the original conversion ...

Re: pdf to eps, resolution

Try a density setting, eg: convert -density 500 stuff.pdf stuff.jpg 1500/72 = 20.8333 1982/72 = 27.5277 Where do you get 183 from? PDF is a vector format (that might also contain bitmap images). A PDF file doesn't really have a resolution (but any embedded bitmaps do, and they can be different from ...

Compare has never hung on me. Try posting URLs to files that give this problem.

... downloading and saving the file from unix to windows without losing the unix line endings that are needed by Cygwin. In Windows 7, downloading Fred's redist script with Firefox 3.5.10, the file retains the Unix line endings. (Firefox doesn't muck around changing characters.) Some Windows text e...

Re: IM hangs

You can limit various resource, including time:

convert -limit time 1 in.jp2 out.jpg

This will actually allow more than one second. Perhaps it doesn't check very often.

Re: Cannot decode JP2000 Images

I'm just guessing about the memory. "identify -vebose" shows an interesting ICC profile, but it shouldn't create a problem. Yes, I'm just using the built-in Jasper; nothing weird. Try "-debug all"; it might show something useful. (But maybe not; it might just confirm that Jasper is falling over.) Im...

Sorry I can't help. I tried Cygwin and disliked it. Dual boot Windows/Ubuntu was a better solution for me.

Re: Cannot decode JP2000 Images

Same here, the standard Windows static binary, except that mine is Q16 (which needs twice the memory of Q8). The mention of DestroyPixelCache in the error report suggests a memory issue. My laptop has 4 GB memory. How much do you have? Does closing all other software (browser etc) help? Does the res...

Re: Cannot decode JP2000 Images

identify and convert work fine for me, Windows 7, IM 6.6.2-4. What version/platform are you on? If old, an upgrade might help.

The image is also large: 5284x7222. This might be a problem on your machine. Do you have problems with just the large images?

Re: -resize followed by -layers merge on PSD file

Most IM operations (blur, crop, level, sharpen and so on) operate on a single image. If they were changed to operate on all the images, huge numbers of scripts would no longer work. EDIT: Incidentally, I have heard but can't confirm that layer 0 of PSD files are a pre-flattenend version of the entir...

Re: Extracting frames from movie gives different sized image

The "problem" is the deconstruct, which will: "replace the second and later images with a smaller image of just the area that changed relative to the previous image".

If you don't want deconstruct, don't use it.
