Re: TIFF Compression JPG with CMYK

Taken from the EXIF Info of 104023_05.tif (Irfanview + Metadata plugin): ComponentsConfiguration: YCbCr http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/YCbCr I guess this explains the funny colors. But don't ask me how to convert this...I have seen this format only on videos. :o If you are lucky the photographer has a...

Re: icc colorprofile in pdf's

1) AFAIK yes 2) Donno, but I guess there is normally no reason to change the format (as long as it's supported by PDF) 3) By simply adding a color profile you don't change a single color value. This only means that the colors in that graphic are from the specified gamut. If I add the color profile o...

Re: icc colorprofile in pdf's

Adding a profile to a PDF doesn't work! Sorry for making a wrong statement here :( After you have reported your problems with tiff, I have started to test again with a real big icc profile (4MB). Guess what, I get the same PDF size as with the small srgb.icc. Uncompressing the PDF with pdftk still l...

Re: icc colorprofile in pdf's

Streams in PDF contain unchanged (aside compression) data. In this example the compressed (/Filter shows the used compression method), but unchanged input graphic. Think about it as a boxed graphic with a PDF frame around it. If you add an ICC profile to such a PDF, the graphic inside that stream is...

Re: error converting pdf->jpg

No problems here on Windows7 64bit, GS7.04, IM 6.7.4-4. If you do not work with the latest versions, please update and try again. Otherwise post a link to your pdf, so that we can see if the problem is related to that pdf or IM.

Re: icc colorprofile in pdf's

I have tested a bit and it looks like IM is adding the ICC profile to the graphic stream and not into the PDF structure. So it does the same as it does with *.gif,*.jpg, etc. I tried it both ways. 1. convert a jpg into pdf and add the profile to the pdf 2. convert a jpg with profile into a pdf (whic...

I'll mess with the transparency issue a bit and post if i find an answer to that issue
Postscript does not support transparency and that's the reason why the graphics are flattened. Use PDF (the successor of PS) if you need transparency.

I use

... -fill xc:#FFFFFFD0

to fill some boxes with a transparent color. Donno if this works for you.

Re: bmp to png conversion

Sorry, I have no special BMP tool to extract more info. As this graphic is part of the Windows7 Explorer I expect the latest and greatest from MS (probably BMP5). Anyhow, the graphic seems to be valid and it looks like this format is currently not supported in IM. As nobody (except MS) is using this...

Re: bmp to png conversion

Mh, strange. I just downloaded the graphic via right mouse button menu (save as...). Checked the bmp with gimp and it looked ok. "identify -verbose 27.bmp" gives Image: 27.bmp Format: BMP (Microsoft Windows bitmap image) Class: DirectClass Geometry: 348x36+0+0 Units: PixelsPerCentimeter Ty...

bmp to png conversion

Hi, I have here some bmp graphics with transparency which I want to convert into png. I tried it with "-channel rgba", "-alpha set" and "-matte", but sadly I don't get the right transparency values. Conversion via Gimp works. Tested with IM 6.6.5-0 and IM 6.6.7-4 on win...

Re: Conversion of JPEG files with icc profiles has quality l

I just made a short test. convert testb.jpg -profile ISOcoated_v2_300_eci.icc test2.jpg gives much better results. The first transformation to AdobeRGB (sRGB) should be left out. But for a complete color management you should embed sRGB.icc in the source graphic and try again. Without a well defined...

Re: Conversion of JPEG files with icc profiles has quality l

Hello K2Ronald, I haven't tried this with IM so I can't help you with this. Anyhow some notes from me. - You convert a picture from a larger color space (RGB) to a smaller color space (CMYK). So a loss of color information is natural. There are also several methods to handle colors that are not part...

Re: maximum density instead of accumulation

Thanks, works as expected.

convert -channel RGB square.png circle.png -composite +matte colorchannel.png
convert -channel A square.png circle.png -compose lighten -composite alphachannel.png
convert colorchannel.png alphachannel.png -compose copy_opacity -composite result.png
