Unable to open image

Post by maeks84 »

Code: Select all

convert Pic1.jpg: -crop 4440x2718+0+0 Pic1crop.jpg
convert: unable to open image 'Pic1.jpg:': No such file or directory @ error/blob.c/OpenBlob/3490.
convert: no decode delegate for this image format `' @ error/constitute.c/ReadImage/556.
convert: no images defined `Pic1crop.jpg' @ error/convert.c/ConvertImageCommand/3288.
I've been trying to figure out the above problem all morning. I'm running OS X 10.13 and installed using Homebrew. I've also uninstalled and reinstalled using

Code: Select all

brew remove imagemagick //to delete current version
brew install imagemagick --build-from-source
What does work is

Code: Select all

convert Pic1.jpg Pic1crop.jpg
Some other info, in case it is helpful. Any suggestions on why I can do a simple convert, but not crop?

Code: Select all

IM is telling you that file, called "Pic1.jpg:", doesn't exist. I'm not surprised because filenames do not normally end with a colon.

Names that end with colon are typically only those internal ImageMagick Images. See https://imagemagick.org/script/formats. ... tin-images

Good grief. Thanks fmw42. I removed the colon and all is well. The confusion stemmed from the documentation at http://www.imagemagick.org/Usage/crop/. I thought the colon was odd, but just had to do with how the command was written.

Yes, that section of the documentation used an internal ImageMagick image, which must have the colon. All normal external images with suffixes should not have the colon. That documentation was writing by one of the ImageMagick developers and assumed at that point you had already read the Basics and File Handling documentation at https://imagemagick.org/Usage/ and https://imagemagick.org/script/command- ... essing.php
