-clut and transparent images

Another transparent issue with IM 7 migration.

Here what I'm doing

convert trans-flower.gif -colorspace gray clut.gif -clut out.gif

trans-flower.gif

clut.gif
Image

Desired output (im 6)
Image

Output in IM 7 no transparency
Image

I've tried -alpha set and a few other things that worked before. any ideas how to fix?
