Adware in ImageMagick installer? (7.08-28-Q16-x64-dll)

Post by selden »

Does the ImageMagick installer for Windows include adware?

When I attempt to download the Windows installer ImageMagick-7.08-28-Q16-x64-dll.exe, whether via HTTP or FTP, the anti-virus software on my computer blocks the download, complaining that it is infected with
Application.Win32.Adposhel.BS@487219106

The same thing happens when I try to download ImageMagick-7.0.8-28-Q8-x64-static.exe

A Web search reveals that Win32/Adposhel is considered a "high threat," apparently causing continuous popups while browsing the Web.
See https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/wdsi/th ... 2/Adposhel

FWIW, I'm using Comodo Internet Security Premium 11, not Windows Defender.

Thanks for whatever help you can provide.

Most likely a false positive, as far as I know the installers have never included anything else than just ImageMagick (and delegates). I have .27 installed on a Windows-PC, no issues with the installer (but I do not use any anti-virus, only what's included (or not) in Windows).

My experience with anti-virus software is that they flag everything that's not know "good" (something they have already scanned and approved).

I reported the problem to Comodo and they determined that it was indeed a false positive. After they updated their AV signatures, I was able to download and update ImageMagick.
