Photoshop files created by convert are not openable in Photo

There is a message about converting layers

There was a problem reading layer data read composite data instead.

Then when I click read composite data I get a message saying.

Could not open "The Path to the File" because it is not compatible with this version of photoshop. It seems to work if I use composite. But I want a layered PSD file. Not all pngs flattened into one layer.

I have treid with many different pngs and the result is always the same.

convert *.png test.psd

I used convert 6.2.9

This does make the photoshop file But I want each PNG to be a different layer?
composite *.png test.psd

What I meant to say was that convert makes a psd but the file says it cannot be opened in the version of photoshop regardless if I used photoshop 7 or photoshop 9.

And the psd created by composite will open in photoshop but there is only one layer.
