It does not hang for me on IM 6.9.10.11 Q16 Mac OSX. I suggest you upgrade your ImageMagick. That version is about 40 versions old.

Good! It's good to hear that newer version doesn't hang.
And exactly, I should use the latest one.

But I use cygwin, and the ImageMagick package on cygwin is not updated recently.
It will take time to test building the latest version from the source, even if I can, since I have no experience...

I suppose you mean you use Cygwin on Microsoft Windows. The Windows pre-built binaries work with Cygwin.

If you want to build IM under Cygwin, you can. The process is simple, see Compiling IM with Cygwin

Successfully compiled and tested them.
They work ImageMagick 6.9.10-11 and 7.0.8-11, but it doesn't work 6.9.9-11 (identify -verbose)

If it works in other releases and it does not work in 6.9.9-11, then your only recourse is to upgrade.
