Valhalla, I suspect that Cristy is just pulling your leg because he
told us the same thing regarding ImageMagick 5.1 yet there have been
gobs of API changes since then.  Let me know if you ever meet this
obscure character so I can give him a piece of my mind.  :-)

The ImageMagick C API was never designed to help protect users from
API changes.  It was designed to help develop some command-line
utilities.  Later, it was enhanced to be both dessert topping, and a
sandwich spread.  Further applications are being developed at this
moment.
