The "magick" program has one version number, which will be 7.something. This is true however you run it.

If you run it with "magick convert" or a symlink from "convert", the version number will be 7.something but you will get the v6 behaviour of the legacy "convert" program.

So, if you don't want v6 behaviour, don't use "convert" or "magick convert".
