Converting PCD files results in Abort trap: 6

I have installed ImageMagick from binary. I can convert the logo using:

convert logo: logo.gif
so I guess ImageMagick has been installed correctly.

But when I try to convert a PCD file to PNG, ImageMagic fails with the following error:

somewhere$ mogrify -colorspace RGB -format png *.PCD[5]
Abort trap: 6
while converting to GIF works:

somewhere$
and creates a GIF image with the dimensions 3072 x 2048 px as expected.

It seems to me that PNG, JPEG, and TIFF support are not missing, because the relevant libraries appear to be installed:

So what does "Abort trap: 6" signify and how can I get the ImageMagick binary to recognize the installed libraries?

I am not sure you can add [5] to your *PCD in mogrify.

PCD RW Photo CD The maximum resolution written is 768x512 pixels since larger images require huffman compression (which is not supported).

Is your image larger than that?

We're using ImageMagick 7.0.4-3 and your command works without complaint under Linux. Fred, can you try it on your Mac?

"magick mogrify -colorspace sRGB -format tiff *.pcd[5]" works without complaint on my Windows 8.1.

768x512 is a restriction on IM writing PCD format, not a restriction on reading.

[5] is fine with mogrify. [6] will give the highest resolution (if present in the PCD).

I suggest "-colorspace sRGB" is used, rather than "-colorspace RGB".

I suspect that the problem lies not in the command but in my installation. Either the binary lacks some parts (maybe the necessary delegates) or my system (macOS 10.12 Sierra) is not compatible with the version of ImageMagick (the binary is for OS X 10.11 El Capitan) or I need to manually install something (though I neither know what nor how).

If you can't write jpg or tiff, your installation is "unusual", perhaps buggy. Perhaps you can't read PCD. What does "convert -list format" say? I suggest you rebuild.

I'm using the binary. As I understand it, you don't "build" the binary, just put it where you want it. I'm trying to avoid building from source, as I'm not comfortably familiar with that.

That is likely the issue. IM has only one version for Mac. You will need to either get it from MacPorts or Homebrew for your Mac version or install all your delegates and IM from source. I install all my delegates from MacPorts and then install IM from source. See viewtopic.php?f=1&t=21502&p=88202&hilit ... rts#p88202

But in your case, it is probably easier to install from either MacPorts (IM 6) or from Homebrew (IM 7)

I did not know that mogrify allowed layer/page/frame/resolution selection?

For both IM 6.9.8.2 and IM 7.0.5.3 Q16, I get an error with the layer selection

mogrify: unexpected end-of-file 'logo.PCD': Bad file descriptor @ error/pcd.c/ReadPCDImage/803.

This produces an image with the logo kind of grayed out on the left half and right half is totally green

But it works fine without it, though the output png is rather grayed out.

@fmw42: Your test has used IM to create a PCD. I think IM can create PCD files that contain only one layer, which is always 768x512. IM can't create multiple layered PCDs.

A PCD from a Kodak PhotoD or similar has multiple layers (the same image at different sizes).

That is likely correct and would explain why it fails with [5] at the end (assuming that is a valid thing in mogrify). When I did the mogrify without it, I got only one resolution. However, the result seems to be grayed out where it should be white. So that seems to be an issue either with the PCD writer or reader.

Perhaps the OP should provide and example PCD image with the full set of resolutions so we can test this.
