Query about temp files

Post by muccigrosso »

When converting a folder full of files, I can sometimes see files with a ~ appended to the end of an existing file's name appear. So a file like "19.png~" will appear. Am I correct to assume that these are related to the use of temp files in the conversion process?

I'm guessing that IM moves the original to this new name, then writes the new file with the original name, and finally deletes that original. Is that right?

I am not an expert on the code behind ImageMagick, but I have never seen that. Temp files are typically stored in the /tmp directory on Unix-like systems. Not sure where on Windows. But they have "ImageMagick" in the name.
