Annoying ambiguous wording in Usage document for "-alpha set"

Post by kpmartin »

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum section, it depends on whether the "Usage" documentation web pages are considered part of the "product".

In the Usage document for "-alpha set" (https://imagemagick.org/Usage/masking/#alpha_set), the second sentence says "but if it was not present or turned off [it sets the alpha channel to all opaque]". This is ambiguous between "not (present or turned off)" and "(not present) or (turned off)".
Although this is clarified in subsequent text (the following sentence presents "has an alpha channel present and enabled") and examples, a minor re-wording would remove the ambiguity in the first sentence.
It could for instance read "turned off or not present" or "absent or turned off"

We did not write nor control the Usage documentation. Instead forward your thoughts to the author, Anthony. His contact information is on the Usage pages.
