split multi page tif and retain the original quality & color

split multi page tif and retain the original quality & color

Hi,
I am splitting multi-page tiffs to individual tifs using the following command.

Convert a.tif -scene 1 a%d.tif

However the output images are losing color and the quality of the original image.

How can I just split the image without changing the quality (color, size etc.)

post a link to your tiff file so it can be examined. It may be that you need to use profiles to maintain quality. Or it may be an issue of compression.

Also please always identify your version of IM and platform when asking questions.

Thanks! I meant to put the version and I forgot. Sorry.

Windows 7 64 bit Machine. ImageMagick 6.8.3 Q16 (32-bit) is the version. I cannot uplaod the image I am testing. I will try to find one test image and upload later.

Any thoughts until then?

If the original is plain sRGB, I wouldn't expect any colour issues. If you can't post the image, perhaps you could...

Your input tiff file is simple bilevel (only two colors --- black and white) and compressed with group 4 compression. I do not see how it can lose quality when separating pages unless the compression is changing. Post the same information for one of the separated output images.

It is also odd that IM sees it as MSB endian, but the TIFF properties shows it as LSB endian.

Of the 23 pages, 22 are bilevel. The other (#8, if I can count correctly) is truecolor, with jpeg compression. I can't see anything weird about it. Is this the page that is causing problems?

Maybe try converting just that page:

I do not think one different page would affect all the rest. Please show us the output verbose information you get from any of the others, say the very first page. But it is really hard to know without seeing what you mean by quality changes. But lets see your verbose information for one of the output pages.

Did you try converting them one page at a time.

convert image.tif[0] newimage_0.tif

Does that make any difference?


Can you post the verbose info for that

identify -verbose image.tif[0]
identify -verbose newimage_0.tif

so we can see if anything is changing. Also you view the two images and try to explain what is actually different?

You can even do

compare -metric rmse image.tif[0] newimage_0.tif null:

and let us know what the resulting message is

I am sorry! It took long to get back. Converting page by page did the trick and this is resolved.
